Welcome Back to another year of scouting!

As we begin the scouting year, take a moment to reflect on how scouting has affected you son and family.  Hopefully it has been a positive addition to helping your son grow, by providing experiences and friends that they may not have had otherwise.

The scouting program is designed to bring exposure and structure to developing boys, and prepare them for a journey throughout life, and into Boy Scouts (for those that continue along the path).  While the Boy Scouts focus more on maturity, self-reliance, honor, and community; the Cub Scouts pay more attention to self-confidence, cooperation, respect, and safety.

Just as important as the involvement of the scout in the success of the program is the involvement of the parents and siblings.  Children learn best by example, and when they see that their parents (and other respected adults) are actively engaged in an activity, they want to be involved also.  This is especially true with the younger ages.  As the boys get older they begin to enter the rebellion ages, but if they are given strong guidance early on then the issues here can be minimized (or occasionally eliminated).

We will have our kickoff picnic in September.  I will be looking for volunteers again to help out at stations and to escort the scouts.  There will be more information in the next newsletter.

If you have any trips or projects that you feel would benefit the scouts, please bring them up (and if possible coordinate).
