Cub Scout Pack 388 Newsletter for 9/06 |

Popcorn! How can you be knighted this year for popcorn sales?
Popcorn sales have historically been the primary fundraising activity for the year in scouting, and that is true again this year. The scouts themselves get prizes and / or part of their sales put into their account for use at camp, for scouting items, educational items, or for sporting equipment. Additionally the pack gets some money, which helps us with keeping the pack going. Every adult leader is a volunteer, none of us get a dime from the boy scouts, so you know that the money goes to supplies, field trips, and equipment to continue the scouting experience. Some more money goes back to the Ojibwa district and Samoset council, but only 33% goes to the popcorn company itself. 67% profit for any fundraiser is pretty good, lets take advantage of it!
The September meeting has all the details you need. If you could not make it to the meeting, please contact Tony Becher, Chuck Foley, Diedra Krueger, or myself for the forms and information.
Remember that you cannot start selling until September 23rd, and the forms need to be turned in by October 22nd.
Akela! Remember that the Cub Scout follows Akela, and Akela means Ògood leaderÓ. Everyone is both a follower and a leader in different circumstances. While the adults are the primary Akela in the organization, I know that personally the scouts (and all children) are very capable of teaching and leading at times also.
Upcoming Activity! DonÕt forget about the picnic / mini-chuckwagon on the 17th at Klemme Reserve (1pm – 4pm). The district chuckwagon is on the weekend of the 23rd (more details at the meeting).
Fun! As you know, this is my first year as Cubmaster. I am looking for ways to increase the fun meter for the pack, and have the reading go up each year. I am looking for feedback on what you liked and disliked last year, and any ideas that you have for this or any upcoming year. Remember that everyone runs the pack, I am just the coordinator for pack wide activities.
September Challenge! Have you submitted your idea yet for the newsletter name? There are two ways to enter, and please only one entry per person.
¯ Contact your Den leader and let them know; or ¯ Send me an email @ silverdragon@tznet.com. Be sure to put Pack388 in the subject and your recommendation and name in the text of the message.
The troop will vote on the name for the newspaper during our October pack meeting (donÕt miss it).
