When a boy first joins the Cub Scouts, his first goal is to get his Bobcat badge. It does not matter what rank (Wolf, Bear, or Webelos) he is striving for. These other badges can not be earned until the Bobcat badge is earned. The only exception is the Tiger badge. The Tiger badge should be earned first if the boy is in 1st grade.

The Bobcat badge is very straightforward. It is used to get new scouts up to speed with some of the basics of scouting. The requirements for this badge are typically done in part at Den meeting(s), and in part with the scout’s family. The Bobcat badge can be earned quickly (between two pack meetings or sooner).

There are eight short requirements for the Bobcat badge.

  • Learn and say the Cub Scout Promises + Complete the Honesty Character Connection
  • Say the Law of the Pack + Tell what it means
  • Tell what Webelos means
  • Show the Cub Scout sign + Tell what it means
  • Show the Cub Scout handshake + Tell what it means
  • Say the Cub Scout motto
  • Give the Cub Scout Salute + Tell what it means
  • Complete “A Bobcat Requirement” (about safety) with an adult

If you do not wish to write in your handbook, there is an advancement signoff sheet in the menu to the left.
